Pregnancy Nausea

Pregnancy nausea is among the most common pregnancy symptoms suffered by most women. However, this can be increasingly unpleasant. This symptom will take place on 75% of pregnant women during the first trimester. In fact, it is such a well-known symptom that it has been dubbed as "morning sickness", which is well known that it can occur regardless of the time of day.

Causes of Pregnancy Nausea

As of today, there are no clear scientific evidence as to why nausea bothers some but not all pregnant women. This condition is often linked to increased levels of pregnancy hormones such as HCG in the woman's body. Meanwhile, pregnant women who are carrying multiple pregnancies are more likely to suffer from nausea or vomiting associated with pregnancy.

Treatment For Pregnancy Nausea

While this might seem as not very serious case of pregnancy symptom, nausea can lead to over-fatigue and other emotional concerns for most pregnant women. Therefore, it is a good thing that several treatment strategies are now available to relieve nausea or vomiting that is related to pregnancy.

For mild cases of nausea, women can significantly improve this condition by eating tiny meals all throughout the day. Therefore, your stomach is never empty. On the other hand, pregnant women are not advised to intake overly heavy meals because it will slow down the process of your digestion. That is why small yet more frequent meals are the way to go.

You can snack on a few crackers and then drinking water before getting out of bed as you wake up in the morning. This will help relieve the feeling of nausea or the urge to vomit in the morning. Since spicy and fatty foods contribute to spells of nausea, it is best to avoid them in your diet. A healthy choice of diet will enable you to suffer less from the unpleasant feeling associated with nausea.

There are also a few women whose feeling of nausea are triggered by certain foods. Here are a few recorded food triggers for a nausea spell:

  • seafoods
  • coffee
  • garlic
  • egg, etc.

The good thing about these triggers is that once you have identified them, it is easy to deal with them - get rid of these food in your diet. Never opt to eat them again unless the vomiting or spell of nausea has faded away.

Alternative Therapies

There are several alternative therapies to help you cope with nausea. For one, you can increase your intake of Vitamin B6 or meet the daily requirement of 50mg. There are also several developed natural herbal therapies for treating nausea such as consuming tiny pieces of ginger. You may also undergo acupressure, so you might want to start looking for a massage therapist or chiropractor within your area. They target pressure points in your body to help relieve you from the feeling of nausea.

You can only perform these therapies for mild or intermittent cases of nausea. But when the feeling persists and become severe, you need to see your doctor. You would then be administered with IV medications or intravenous therapy. This will prevent the possibility of dehydration and ensure that enough nutrition despite of continuous vomiting spells.
